First Dissection

Dissection is one of those amazing, fantastic learning activities that you never forget...at least that's how it was for me. I remember Ms. Noonan, my first grade teacher, dissecting different things for us at the Montessori school I attended; I remember dissecting a frog with Mr. Arnold in Bio 1 and a fetal pig in AP Bio. So I was tickled when I realized that dissection would be part of the "Suckers to Siphons - All Things Squid" class that we attended this past weekend through Camp SEA Lab.

The kids explored the squid, activated chromatophores by rubbing the mantle, made a siphon ring, popped the ink sac and use the pen as a pen. The program was fantastic. Here are some shots of the kids during their first dissection.
