Child Labor

After Dylan learned about the history of Labor Day last year in first grade, anytime he has to do chores or lend a helping hand around the house, he accuses us of "forcing him to do child labor." I have tried to explain that sorting, folding, and putting away his own clothes does not qualify as child labor!

But the accusation was once again on the tip of his tongue when I asked the boys to put the slip covers back on the couch. You would think I had asked him to strip down to his underwear and stomp down the slip covers into the blue dye for an hour. Oh, wait, that was me!

Our decade-old denim couch was looking a little tired. Kinda like your favorite jeans - worn, faded, but much-loved. Since a new couch wasn't in the budget, I decided to invest in a few boxes of RIT dye and hand dip the slipcovers for a whole-new look. My hands looked like I was auditioning for The Smurfs all weekend. Next time I'll wear gloves. The best part was relaxing on the revamped couch with the boys playing Earth-o-poly.
